The Hungaroring circuit opened for business in 1986 and has hosted the Hungarian round of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship every year since. The event, 20KM from the centre of Budapest, was the first behind the ‘iron curtain’ and today draws in fans in from nations such as Germany, Austria, and Finland to give it an international flavour.
With 14 turns over 4.4KM of undulating asphalt, the circuit today is seen as a challenge to the drivers and teams alike, and despite its twisty nature, usually provides an entertaining and eventful race.
The Hungarian Grand Prix traditionally takes place in the height of summer with wall-to-wall sunshine. Indeed, from its inception, through to 2006, every race took place in dry conditions.
