FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DELL’EMILIA-ROMAGNA 2024

The Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari is a race track near the Italian town of Imola, 40 kilometres (24.9 mi) east of Bologna. It is one of the few major international circuits to run in an anti-clockwise direction. The circuit is named after Ferrari’s late founder, Enzo Ferrari, and his son, Alfredo Ferrari.

Previously run as the San Marino Grand Prix, the infamous 1994 edition of the race saw Formula 1 legend Roland Ratzenberger and three-time World Champion Ayrton Senna lose their lives. In the aftermath, the circuit continued to host Grands Prix, but revisions to the previously flat-out Tamburello and Villeneuve corners were made. In an attempt to retain some of the quickness and character of the old circuit, the arduous chicane at Acqua Minerali was eliminated, and the Variante Bassa was straightened into a single chicane. Another safety modification made to the Imola track was that of Variante Alta, formerly a high-kerbed chicane, which was lowered considerably and the turn itself was tightened to reduce speeds.

Although Imola only returned to the Formula 1 calendar in 2020, this iconic circuit has featured on many other motorsport championship calendars since 2006, so will undoubtedly bring plenty of wheel-to-wheel action.
